SEO For Pool Service Companies

Google is the New Yellow Pages:

When someone wants to do something like hire a pool service company, he doesn’t pull out the old phone book and start calling businesses from A-Z. Instead, he opens his search engine of choice and types in one or two keywords that describe what he’s looking for (e.g., “best pool repair”).

Why You Should Rank In The Search Engines

Do the pool service companies who rank higher in Google get more customers? They most certainly do! Here are all of the benefits of being #1 in Google.

Free Traffic:

As opposed to more expensive forms of online marketing like PPC advertising or banner ads, organic search results don’t require ongoing costs and offer a much lower cost per impression. Once your site is ranking, it can continue to rank for years to come. The average person does 44 searches per day through Google, providing the #1 spot in google with a daily stream of new leads.

Swimming pool companies should invest some of their marketing dollars into search engine optimization. This is because most pool owners are going to utilize the internet to find a local company. Many will not look beyond the first five results that pop up in Google, Bing or Yahoo.

The reason why people do this is that they are too busy to call every company on Google or the phonebook. Homeowners want to make a decision quickly. Generally, they will choose the first company on the list that will answer the phone and have available to service their pool.

If your business is not one of the top 5 in Google, you will likely not get that call. If you are not listed at all, it will be difficult to get that call unless the homeowner is already aware of your business.

In order to increase your rankings in the search engines, you will need to know how Google and the other engines work. It’s a precise science that utilizes a series of keyword phrases in order for your website page to be classified based on content, relevance, and location.

Choose Your Keywords

Start with a list of your services. Are people searching for “swimming pool maintenance” and “swimming pool cleaning”? Those are probably keywords that you will want to have on your page.

You can also use the free Keyword Planner inside of Google Adwords to come up with ideas for keywords and to see how many searches the keywords you enter might receive.

Optimize Your Keywords

For example, if your business is based out of San Diego, California and you primarily service the La Jolla area, keywords like ‘La Jolla pool service’, `pool services in la Jolla, ‘san Diego pool repair’ or simply ‘la Jolla swimming pools’ would need to be incorporated into your keywords list.

If you have a website, you can incorporate these keywords into the content. Keywords are not only utilized in your business name they should also be included in your page title, headings, and body copy.

This will ensure that even if someone is searching for ‘pool services san diego’ your business will come up on Google and their organic search results.

Get Backlinks And Citations

Additionally, your page needs to have a good number of high-quality backlinks pointing to it. Backlinks help Google and other search engines determine how important your business is to the search intent of a user. In other words, they help Google determine which businesses are most likely going to be relevant for search queries related to swimming pool companies in San Diego or La Jolla.

Creating backlinking strategies should not be taken lightly. Not all backlinks are created equal. Some backlinks will impact your rankings more than others. In order to build high-quality links, you need to have a firm understanding of link value and the way that Google’s algorithms work. It is beyond the scope of this article to go into detail about all of the nuances involved with link building, but if you want to learn more, I recommend checking out this article:

Cheap and Fast Search Engine Optimization

You will notice that many local swimming pool companies do not utilize search engine optimization strategies and do not have a website listed near the top of Google. This creates an opportunity for you since you are able to reach more pool owners with your marketing dollars.

It can be very cheap to improve your position in Google, and you will likely see results very quickly.

The best way to see if a company is utilizing search engine optimization techniques is to pop their website address into SEMrush.   It’s a free tool that will allow you to check the backlinks and keywords for any domain on the internet.

If you do not have the budget to invest into a website for your pool company, you can do the following:

Buy an inexpensive domain name and point it at your listing on Yelp or Angie’s List or to your Facebook page. You can then get a free Google My Business Listing that will show your business phone number and link to your domain. That domain will redirect to your free business listing on one of these other sites where you can show pictures and share more about your business.

Use that site as the primary location where potential pool owners are going to find you. Link from there back to social media and then utilize search engine optimization techniques to increase your ranking in Google for relevant keywords related to pool companies. If you have an existing website, you can still use it to drive traffic back to your Google listing.

To do this, you will want to add all of the relevant business information for your pool service company into the website on each page. For example, instead of having a page that is named ‘service’, you would have one titled ‘Service – La Jolla Pool Service’.

You might also set up a page for each type of service you offer. For example, if you offer pool cleaning service, you will want a “Cleaning” page. Pool installation can get its own page as well. This will help you rank in Google for these long-tail terms

On each of these pages, you will want to make sure that the following information is included:

1) Google reviews are easily accessible. They are a great source for current and potential customers and it builds trust in your business when compared to the competition.

2) A short description of your pool company.

3) Contact information and a link to Yelp, Angie’s List, Facebook, Google My Business, etc..

4) All the services you offer and pictures that show examples of each one so that people can get an idea of what they may need to be done on their pool.

5) Pictures of your pool service fleet or trucks.

A website can be very powerful if used effectively. It’s important to make sure that you are using the site for all it’s good for when it comes to ranking in Google and getting more visibility in general. You should also ensure that your call-to-action is not buried down on the page. You also want to use a call to action button that is bright and eye-catching.

Most pool companies should reinvest 20% of their profits into marketing. Even if you feel like you have too much business as it is, reinvesting into more marketing helps you stay ahead of the competition and ensures that you have plenty of work, should you one day be faced with a bad economy.

Tracking Results

Google Analytics is free software that is easy to set up on your site and will track how many visitors you get. You can also split out the visitors by traffic source, making it easy to see where each person came from. This helps you identify which marketing campaign is most profitable and helps you get the best ROI.
